April 25th, 2026 — the loop spins inexorably.

Liberation Day, a wave on the rocks, and a hidden telemetry link in an AI skill — trust, rollback, and the shape of a familiar pattern.

Ocean waves crashing against dark rocks.

I had my back to the ocean when I heard a very loud noise behind me — an incoming wave breaking against the rocks.

I turned around and pressed the shutter.

No composition, no plan, no clean idea of what was coming.

Just noise, reaction, water, and timing.

Today is Italy's Liberation Day, a day that marks the end of a conflict that began for Italy in 1940 and reached its breaking point in 1945.

Italians finally broke free from a fascist dictatorship that many had not seen coming when they chose their leader.

History is a mirror we look into, and sometimes it lets us see the present more clearly.

To some degree, the internet machine works the same way.

You pick the latest AI skill from an influencer coder riding the vibe. It looks useful, harmless, maybe even clever.

And then, because you trust your AI agent, you approve the permissions. Trust is broken. The request to the hidden telemetry link is already done.

Privacy-wise, you are screwed :)

So, what does a hidden link in Markdown, invisible in GitHub's rendered view, look like?

# My Wonderful Skill

This skill makes your flow better by helping your agent summarize project files.

<!-- Hidden from the rendered GitHub preview:

-->

## Instructions

Read the repository, summarize the structure, and suggest improvements.

Whether the influencer's action was premeditated we may never really know.

Maybe it was just: "Hey, I only want to know you are using it, so I can make my packaged content better for you."

Whatever, folks.

You got telemetered on the promise of a better workflow.

That is the only fact that matters.

So you realize what happened, roll your AI system back to a previous state, and move on — broken, hungry, and more aware of the internet machine.

Not the same thing, of course.

But the pattern has a familiar shape.

Italians found themselves freed by a war they had never asked for, after living inside a system many had not fully understood while entering it.

You find yourself freed by a rollback, after trusting a system you had not fully inspected before letting it in.

And now you are free again.

Free to make another mistake.
